An opportunity for a Research & Development (R&D) Materials Engineer/Chemist/Physicist to apply experimental and computational methods to the development of sensors for high temperature and radiation applications. This role is part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast paced, highly collaborative environment focused on rapid product development.
As a Material Scientist, you will be responsible for:
- Working as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team focused on sensor technology, in particular radiation detectors operating at high temperatures (greater than 500C).
- Providing guidance and review of material selection for radiation detection and combustion measurement sensors operating at high temperatures.
- Applying knowledge and skills to advise on issues of metallurgy, ceramics, and electroplating.
- Providing guidance and review of joining processes such as welding, brazing, and soldering of materials.
- Developing, set-up, and safely conduct experiments/tests to support material selection and process development for conceptual & prototype sensor systems.
- Establishing robust materials analysis and qualification processes that leverage in-house as well as outside capabilities. This includes insuring we have access to appropriate and up-to-date analytical equipment and associated qualified personnel.
- Document work products in written form, e.g. technical notes, design specifications, journal publications.
- Presenting work achievements to the team, and when appropriate to the scientific community at technical conferences.
- Providing materials support for all existing Reuter-Stokes’ product lines.
- Interface with materials peers within the broader Baker Hughes community to leverage and establish best practices.
Fuel your passion
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have a bachelor’s degree in any relevant engineering, chemistry, material science or any related course.
- Have a master’s degree in Materials Science, or Chemistry
- Have at least 5 to 7 years of technical work experience as a Material Scientist/Engineer
- Have a knowledge of High Temperature material selection, and characterization.
- Have extensive experience with material testing and analysis techniques.
- Have experience with welding, brazing (especially ceramic-to-metal), and/or soldering
- Have experience with computational modelling tools such as ANSYS, Granta
- Have expert knowledge of materials standards (ASTM, ASME Code Sec II and IX, ANSI)
- History of technical contributions to one or more of the following fields:
- a) High temperature metal alloy machining, heat treating, joining, and plating.
- b) High temperature ceramic production, processing, and brazing
- c) High temperature coatings
- Strong analytical and experimental skillset.
