Position Summary:

This position is responsible for analyzing data and writing complex reports using Cognos and/or Power BI in support of business requests.
The team supports various business units with a strong focus supporting the Business Services and Innovations team’s needs.
The incumbent needs to understand DeVry business areas and translate business needs into technical specifications and ultimately extracts, reports, cubes, dashboards, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for complex report writing, framework modeling, creating cubes and dashboard reports.
  • Utilizes Oracle database and Cognos 11 suite of products to accurately build and report data.
  • Responsible for writing data extracts by querying available data sources to answer complex business questions. Utilizes SQL and Power BI to accurately report the data.
  • Works with the business areas to develop report requirements.
  • Creates business and data requirements for new reports and dashboards.
  • Works closely with the IT Department and Data Warehouse team to assure that the data requirements are met and completed business intelligence objects are successfully migrated to production.
  • Participates in researching data availability and format, designing reports, programming, and publishing the reports, enhancement, and maintenance of existing reports and dashboards.
  • Participates in the data integrity initiative and works with end users to follow through with associated action items.
  • Works with other business areas to reconcile data differences.
  • Works closely with IT to identify key business requirements for technological enhancements for any reporting needs as well as the maintainability of our production infrastructure.
  • Creates and executes test plans/scripts to test/QA reports and programs.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned or required.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in computer science or related discipline, with a quantitative concentration.
  • 5 or more years’ experience with the Cognos suite of products (Framework Manager, Transformer, Report Studio, Analysis Studio, Data Module, Dataset, Dashboard) required.
  • 3 or more years’ experience with data warehousing life cycle and dimensional modeling required.
  • 4 or more years of Advanced Structured Query Language (SQL) programming experience required.
  • 3 or more years’ experience with Power BI is a plus.
  • Excellent documentation skills required.
  • Must have strong critical thinking, organizational, interpersonal communication, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Expertise with Microsoft suit of products is required. Mastery with Excel programming and Access database management is a plus.
  • Cognos Certification in Report Authoring is a plus.
  • Certification in Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst is a plus.
  • Experience working in Student Finance/ Education sector is a plus.
