Job Description

Coordinates the activities of the Radiation Safety Office. Administers the radiation protection program for x-rays and radioactive materials. Manages radiation safety staff and plays a key role in ensuring radiation safety in the organization.

Job Responsibility

  • Provides strategic advice and guidance to the Radiation Safety function.
  • Organizes and prepares agendas for quarterly radiation safety and radioactive drug research committee meetings.
  • Maintains and updates the hospital radiation safety manual.
  • Reviews for IRB approval radioactive materials research proposals.
  • Submits proposals to the Radiation Safety Committee, as required.
  • Oversees radiation safety programs including: the personnel radiation monitoring program, extended fluoroscopy monitoring, investigation of radiation incidents, managing clinical and laboratory radioactive materials permits, radiation safety training programs, equipment calibrations for radiation safety devices, bioassay program, and irradiator security.
  • Reports to nuclear medicine, radiology and radiation oncology quality assurance committees and hospital safety committee.
  • Prepares for license inspections by regulatory agencies.
  • Prepares for Joint Commission surveys.

Job Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Certification by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologist, the American Board of Health Physics Certification, American Board in Medical Physics or American Board in Science in Nuclear Medicine.
  • 2 years of relevant experience.
