Department Overview

Motorola Solutions, Inc. (MSI), has an excellent opportunity in its Global Corporate Tax Function for a Senior Tax Analyst – State and Local Tax. This role reports into the Director of Tax Accounting & Compliance. The individual in this position will be a key member of MSI’s global tax accounting and compliance team that works collaboratively with its business partners worldwide. MSI’s global corporate tax function is based in the company’s Chicago headquarters and is supported by regional personnel in Canada, Europe and Asia.

Job Description

This role will be on a hybrid schedule and work out of our Chicago office.

Primary objective of the position is to perform various tax accounting and compliance functions, including:

  • Prepare workpapers for state and local income tax returns, including state apportionment, modification, and return summaries

  • Calculate and process the state and local estimated tax payments and extensions

  • Support the integration of acquired entities into MSI’s compliance portfolio with regards to state and local income, franchise, personal property tax, and annual reports

  • Manage state and local income tax compliance calendar and various trackers on an ongoing basis

  • Manage the outsourcing of annual report compliance with external service providers

  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations for tax related general ledger accounts as directed

  • Organize, review, and timely respond to tax notices

  • Proactively respond to key business partners

  • Research state and local taxation issues

  • Propose process improvements by developing and streamlining procedures and worksheets

  • Assist on domestic income tax audits, as needed

  • Support tax planning, M&A, and special projects, as needed

Experience Required:

  • At least 3-4 years of experience (a combination of Big 4 and industry)

  • Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in accounting

  • Strong capabilities to think strategically and analytically, identify issues and opportunities, solve problems

  • Ability to practically apply tax knowledge to produce quantitative models, well-supported tax positions and sound business-oriented tax advice

  • Effective organizational, project management skills and ability to initiate and run projects independently

  • Effective written and verbal communications skills at both tax technical and non-technical business levels

  • Ability to work under time constraints and meet assigned deadlines

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently

  • Proficient in MS-Word and Excel

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience with CorpTax compliance software, strongly preferred

  • Experience with Alteryx, a plus

  • CPA preferred

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance with at least 3+ years of experience working in a related field
