Department Overview

In the PCR (Professional and Commercial Radio) department we are developing and delivering software used for business and mission critical communications & workflows in MOTOTRBO systems and Safety Reimagined solutions.
Our solutions are omnipresent in many verticals important in everyday lives such as healthcare, public safety, transportation, logistics, education, hospitality, energy, manufacturing, retail and many others.
Our teams are following industry-standard and modern software development practices like continuous integration/continuous deployment, DevOps, component- and system-level automated testing. We use agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) to organize our work ranging from cross-functional teams to portfolio management.
As owners, we are responsible for end-to-end software development life-cycle, including: specification and design, implementation, testing, delivery and maintenance.

As Product Manager you'll be a member of MOTOTRBO Product Planning team that manages the MOTOTRBO radio portfolio. Team members are responsible for identifying and delivering new products and solutions as well as monitor and manage existing products and solutions.
Individual Product Managers work with cross-functional teams including engineering, supply chain, service, marketing and sales for the definition and on time delivery of the product and solutions. Post launch, Product Managers monitor their portfolio and identify and implement actions to boost the performance of the portfolio. This includes sunsetting products if required.


Job Description

The candidate will be responsible for MOTOTRBO software programming and fleet management applications and supporting MOTOTRBO's EMEA operations. In the future the role could expand to other areas in MOTOTRBO including radio and solutions software and hardware. The Product Manager is the mini-CEO of their product/offer. They analyze customer environment, market and competitive conditions and lay out product vision that solves the market problem and delivers value to the customer. They will do this by defining the ‘why’, ‘what,’ ‘where’, and ‘when’ of the product that the development team will build. They are the owner of their product -- which means they lead cross-functional teams from a product's conception through to its launch. Their responsibilities will span many activities from strategic to tactical and provide cross-functional leadership — bridging gaps within the company between different functions, especially between development, supply chain, finance, sales and marketing, and service and support. Post-launch, product managers monitor their portfolio and identify and implement actions to boost the performance of the portfolio. This includes sunsetting products if required.

Detailed responsibilities include:

Product Strategy

The product manager is responsible for setting a product vision and strategy. Their job is to clearly identify the problem the product is solving and the value to the customer and to Motorola Solutions. They will need to be able to articulate this to the cross functional team including sales and senior management so they understand the intent behind the new product or product release. They own the strategy behind the product along with its roadmap and must work with development to define, prioritize and build what matters.

  • Create and manage the product portfolio, roadmap, vision and backlog

  • Identify customer needs and market requirements

  • Evaluate competitive intelligence

  • Define financial goals

  • Create business plans and proposals for new initiatives

Product Releases

Product managers must plan for what their teams will deliver and when they will deliver it. The product manager owns the HW and SW release aspects of the product. Release responsibilities include managing HW and SW features and dependencies in and across releases, product and support teams; and managing releases with phases and milestones.

  • Establish vision and goals for releases

  • Define market offer and structure

  • Work with enablement organizations to make products orderable and deliverable

  • Define and support implementation of training, support and deployment requirements

  • Manage risks and resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality

  • Coordinate overall release project and schedule

Product Vision

Collecting, curating, and promoting the most relevant ideas into features. Defining which ideas should be promoted to features to achieve key objectives for the product line and business. Soliciting feedback and requests from customers and field teams and ensuring this is seamlessly integrated into the product planning and development processes.

Feature Definition

The product manager defines the features and requirements necessary to deliver a complete product to market and lead the product team to success. They are responsible for articulating the ‘why’ and ‘what’, working with go to market to determine the ‘where’, and working with development to determine the ‘when’.

  • Create user stories and scenarios

  • Direct and approve UI/UX activities

  • Define acceptance criteria, KPIs and SLAs

Go-to-Market Support

Responsible for making product decisions and often is the lead resource for the rest of the organization when deep product expertise is required. This includes supporting the organizations that help bring the product to market and work directly with customers including marketing, sales, training and support services.

  • Facilitate sales and channel training

  • Assist pre-sales with custom project requests

  • Define and ensure implementation of GTM assets including demo environments, training materials, and presentations

  • Demonstrate new pre-release features


Basic Requirements

  • at least Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field

  • able to drive discussions with customers, ask proper questions to solicit feedback and requests from customers

  • excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • fluent in english (spoken, written)

  • ability to influence team members external to their department

  • ability to interface and communicate effectively with multi-discipline, cross-functional teams

  • works independently and can manage deadlines


Additional Qualified Skills

  • knowledge of MOTOTRBO systems and products

  • understands how Radio Manager and CPS work from a user side

  • engineering background and/or technically savvy relative to 2-way radio systems
