Job Description

The Systems Engineer role will form part of multi-disciplined project teams to design and deliver complex mission critical voice and data systems. The systems may be used directly by our customers or by Motorola Solutions to deliver Managed Services to our customers. The System Engineer will work in the post sales phases of projects and may support multiple projects in parallel depending on size and complexity. There may also be a requirement to provide support to pre-sales activities.

The System Engineer role can operate at different levels within the organisation and/or projects. The level of the role will be determined by the size and complexity of the project or activity as well as the level of the individual within the TS organisation.

Main Duties:

  • Perform detailed design to refine and develop communication system solutions and services which satisfy the requirements of the customer, end users and operator
  • Undertake the generation of system documentation and equipment lists using relevant tools and processes.
  • Undertake presentations of technical solutions and services to customers, project teams and management.
  • Work together with project managers to help track progress, decisions and changes.

Depending on the project scope, a Systems Engineer might be the technical lead responsible for the entire solution, overseeing the design, deployment and test teams until the project is completed. Alternatively, the Systems Engineer role might specialise in a particular area or sub-system based on the specifics of the area or project in which they are working.


Basic Requirements

  • Graduate engineer from an accredited college or university. Degree, H.N.C, or equivalent in Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated results are typically associated with an individual who has an undergraduate degree in a technical field.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience​:

The following skills are considered essential:

  • Strong background in communications solutions and applications and architectures In-depth understanding of Public Safety applications and solutions
  • Experience of complex project integration including interface definition
  • IP & Transmission design/ implementation
  • Good communication skills and confidence to present solutions to customers/users

The following skills are considered desirable:

  • Knowledge of relevant standards - for example 3GPP and ETSI
  • Knowledge of IT Service Management including ITIL standards and service management tools (e.g. BMC Remedy)
  • Knowledge of Mobile Device Management platforms and services
  • Secure remote access solutions
  • OSS integration support for fault management and alarm correlation
  • Experience of working in a pre-sales environment (e.g. proposal response, customer presentations, etc)
