Responsibilities
We are hiring a Data Engineering Team Lead! The candidate will join a high-performing team that implements, maintains, and supports 150+ extract, transform, and load (ETL) and data sourcing (DS) processes and automated jobs that ingest data from disparate sources into Oracle, PostgreSQL, Redshift, and S3 data stores in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and on-premises environments. This position is remote.
What you will do:
The Data Engineering Team Lead is the day-to-day technical delivery leader for a team of a dozen software developers and works closely with the program manager and senior technical consultant to ensure the quality and timeliness of all deliverables and commitments.
- Work closely with the senior technical consultant to evaluate client needs and recommend appropriate technical direction for a government agency moving its (ETL) operations from on-premises to an AWS environment and cloud-native technologies.
- Communicate with customer teams and users as needed on technical direction and operational issues.
- Communicate technical direction to the development and operations and maintenance (O&M) teams as it relates to their specific development and support tasks.
- Perform or lead the team in evaluating the size and complexity of incoming customer requests.
- Participate in backlog grooming with the program manager and client product owner.
- Assign incoming tasks to team members based on their skills and subject matter expertise, consulting with the program manager and customer as appropriate.
- Oversee the day-to-day activities of the development and O&M teams, ensuring customer and team standards and procedures are followed.
- Conduct daily standup meetings in the program manager/scrum master’s absence.
- Evaluate developers’ performance and work with the program manager and senior technical consultant on staffing decisions and performance evaluation.
- Oversee the technical aspects of onboarding new team members.
- This is a fully remote/telecommuting position – minimal travel required
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Technology or related discipline.
- 8 years’ experience delivering multiple enterprise data warehouse and information technology projects
- Demonstrated experience working in large federal government environments dealing with design, development and management of complex IT systems
- Ability to lead and provide technical guidance to software development personnel within a high-paced environment
- Experience supporting the design and development of complex ETL projects in an AWS environment
- Strong AWS experience including AWS Glue, Lambda, ECS, EC2, and PostgreSQL, Redshift, and S3 data stores
- Recent, demonstrable experience with the Python and XML programming languages
- Recent, demonstrable experience with the SQL language
- Data modeling experience
- Strong team leadership and communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Experience managing software configuration management with GitLab
- Gitlab CI/CD experience
- Must be a US Citizen
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading remote teams
- Federal government experience
- Agile Framework experience
- Experience with AWS Athena, CloudWatch, Kinesis
- Relevant Certifications: AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Developer, AWS Data Engineer
