Position Scope

SES is seeking a talented Senior Battery Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate is committed and dedicated, responsible, focused, detail-oriented, able to adjust in a fast-paced working environment, collaborate well with other staff members with a shared vision and demonstrate excellent organizational communication skills.

This position will be based in our Woburn, MA location.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain various battery test equipment, including cyclers (e.g. Neware, Maccor, Arbin), data loggers, and environmental chambers.
  • Develop appropriate battery cycling test protocols and conduct battery tests to meet requirements for specific applications.
  • Oversee cycling lab capability and assign cycler usage to optimize efficiency.
  • Plan, develop and execute Design of Experiments for fabrication and testing of lithium metal cells.
  • Analyze and evaluate chemical and electrochemical data to determine direct and interaction effects of the materials under evaluation, execute root-cause analysis of failures, and take appropriate action during product development and launch.
  • Propose cell and/or material design changes to optimize battery performance for different customer applications.
  • Work with external suppliers, vendors, national labs, academic institutions, and OEMs.

Qualifications

  • MS or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanic Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of industrial experience in design and development of components and assemblies for lithium-ion batteries or related technologies.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of lithium-ion battery technologies, including active materials, cell design, cell assembly, testing and failure mode analysis; experience with lithium metal battery is a plus.
  • Familiarity with battery and electrochemical test equipment (Neware, Bio-Logic, Maccor, Arbin, etc.) programming, operating, and data analyzing; experience of using Python or Jupyter Notebook to process cycling data is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to design and conduct complex experiments, using DOE approach to interpret and correlate experimental results with battery product performance.
  • Strong communication skills.
