The primary function of the Chemist - Technical Solutions Representative (TSR) function is to support and provide support for the Inside Sales and New Business Development sales teams (Chemicals and Distribution) in profitably growing our product lines. Common markets the TSR would support may include: solvents, inorganics, oxides, process aids, silicones, surfactants, oxides, additives/modifiers, polymer resins, and many others. This is done by establishing Univar as a credible technical resource, finding opportunities to uniquely address customer needs, and enabling the organization to sell value.


  • Research and respond to technical questions presented by sales staff for new and prospective customers – this includes providing technical off sets and counseling on appropriate products for end use applications.

  • Collaborate across Univar Solutions with departments including Product Management, Field ADS, various laboratory associates and supplier technical contacts and sales associates

  • Document all sales interactions in Salesforce.com, including activities.

  • Attend trainings by suppliers and industry representatives to maintain product line knowledge and technical resources

  • Perform other related tasks


  • Bachelor´s degree in Chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, or similar (minimum)

  • 2+ years in technical role

  • Strong inter-personal skills and the ability to develop strong, successful business relationships with customers as well as internal teammates.

  • Able to expand technical knowledge across multiple Chemistries.

  • Experience with Microsoft Suite as well as CRM platforms such as Salesforce.com

  • Ability to handle time and resources efficiently to achieve goals.

  • Strong business insight, including an understanding of the business relationship between manufacturers, distributors and end-users of chemical products and services.

  • Well-honed listening and problem-solving skills to uncover needs and motivations to overcome objections in order provide the services and/or products that best fit the customer’s needs.
